The History Channel – HD

Logo design

Brief: The History Channel was launching their High Definition programs and channel. The client’s request for an ‘HD’ tag or bolt-on to the existing History Channel logo which must remain untouched.

Approach: To push our client’s preconceived ideas of just a bolt-on logo. By studying the existing logo, we discovered that the History Channel logo has a three dimensional typeface. We used this element to develop some design options from bolt-on logos to a 3D logo that can be animated.

Solution: Our solution was taking the existing ‘H’ symbol of History Channel logo to create a three-dimensional cube. The cube would then turn 45° on its x-axis to reveal the letters ‘HD’ engraved in the cube.
